Dogs and Cats and a Goat. Oh My!!!

Paws and Claws Care Center (PCCC) is well known for the care of abandoned, surrendered and stray dogs, cats and an occasional pig, goat or tortoise. Taking care of these wonderful creatures, big and small, usually goes fairly smoothly. The staff at PCCC was unaware that the “annihilator,” in the form of a goat, would be coming their way. On January 29, 2021, a large, sleek, black goat was found on the lam at 16th Avenue and Cedar Drive in Apache Junction. Mr. Goat (I will refer to him as Mr. Goat as everyone should have a name), was taken to PCCC for shelter until either his owner could be found or a more permanent residence could be established. He was placed in a chain link kennel normally used to house dogs and treated to a fresh bale of hay courtesy of Shopper’s Supply. For all intents and purposes, Mr. Goat was safe and had a steady food supply, but was he happy? No!!! Mr. Goat proceeded to take out his unhappiness and need to make a break for it on not only his kennel, but the adjacent kennel. All in all, two much needed kennels were severely damaged rendering them unusable. Luckily, Mr. Goat was uninjured, however, repairs would cost over $3,000. This amount was definitely not in the budget. A request for assistance was sent to FOAJ where it was approved and repairs were made. Money was available to help PCCC thanks to FOAJ’s many generous donors. Today Mr. Goat is spending his days at an animal sanctuary in the city and the PCCC’s kennels are as good as new awaiting or housing the next dog in need of care and shelter.
